The Story
Most people see a jumbled pile of metal rings. Beyond the tangle, Wizard sees the potential for something beautiful.
His journey began when he was seven years old while at a Renaissance Faire. He came across an artisan’s table teaching chainmaille patterns. Immediately drawn to the craft, he found himself sitting at the table, ready to learn with pliers he could barely hold. While other kids were watching magic shows and jousting tournaments, he was determined to finish what he started. This dedication generated a spark bigger than I could have imagined. I connected him with Rebeca Mojica, a master weaver and chainmaille extraordinaire. Under her patient mentorship, Wizard pushed past the basics and tackled advanced weaves that even adults find intimidating. Within a few months of learning his first weave, he had a whole collection of chainmaille with not enough friends or arms to wear them. Thus, Wizard’s Maille was born.
The Craft
Chainmaille is an ancient art, once used for protection on the battlefield. Today, Wizard translates that ancient strength into modern, wearable art.
Wizard's Process:
Hand-Linked: Every piece is woven ring-by-ring. No machines, just two hands and a pair of pliers.
Thoughtful Design: He works with classic patterns like Byzantine and Full Persian, but he often dreams up his own variations.
Homeschool Life: Being homeschooled gives Wizard the flexibility to dive deep into his craft. Whether he’s practicing piano or scoring touches with his épée, he brings that same precision and discipline back to his maille workbench.
